Problem

Designing a risk management app comes with a unique set of challenges—ranging from user psychology and technical constraints to data complexity and regulatory considerations.

Complexity Overload
Most existing risk management platforms are packed with dense features meant for specialists, often requiring formal training or domain knowledge. For smaller businesses or non-risk professionals, this complexity creates a barrier to entry.

Poor Visibility into Priorities
Risk registers and dashboards are often presented as flat lists or overly technical tables, making it difficult to understand which risks are most urgent or impactful.

Limited Collaboration
Risk ownership is often distributed across departments, but many tools don’t support collaborative features like commenting, tagging, or assigning actions.

Market Gap for a Simple and Intuitive Risk Management Solution
These tools often assume the user has prior expertise in risk frameworks or familiarity with industry jargon, making them inaccessible to the majority of small-to-mid-sized businesses or non-specialist users.

Goals

Objective 1: Launch a user-friendly minimum viable product that improves team-wide risk awareness

  • KR1: Achieve 80% task completion rate for risk entry without external support.

  • KR2: Reduce time to complete a risk report by 40% compared to spreadsheet methods.

  • KR3: Get 90% of test users to identify the platform as “easy to use” in post-test surveys.

Objective 2: Drive initial user adoption and engagement

  • KR1: Reach 1,000 active users within the first 3 months post-launch.

  • KR2: Ensure 50% of new users return to the platform within 7 days.

Next Steps

Prioritize Simplifying the User Experience
Focus on designing a minimal, intuitive onboarding flow to guide users through their first risk entry.

Establish a Clear Information Architecture
Define a scalable risk categorization system (e.g., risk type, status, owner) and map out the core user journey for logging, tracking, and resolving risks.

Develop Wireframes for Key User Flows
Sketch and test wireframes for top flows: adding a risk, updating a risk, and viewing a dashboard.

Result

We developed a lightweight, modular risk management app focused on clarity, scalability, and user accessibility—particularly for non-specialist users.

The chosen solution emphasizes:

  • A clean, dashboard-style interface that makes key risks visible at a glance

  • Step-by-step risk creation flows to guide users through unfamiliar processes

  • Tagging, filtering, and ownership tools to keep risk logs manageable as organizations grow

  • Automated reminders and timeline views to encourage regular updates and team accountability
